Michael's Extensive Answer Regarding His Current Music Playlist

I bought my first single at 11, Moving Pictures ‘What About Me’, with my first LP being Judas Priests, Hell Bent for Leather, yep I loved Heavy Metal, and likely would’ve stayed that way for even longer but for meeting a chef at the age of 15 who told me that although Motorhead were ‘alright’ but I needed to listen to a tape which he assured me would change my music tastes forever. So in the Walkman it went…He was right, Jello Biafras band The Dead Kennedys ‘Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables’ set me on a path that I still love to this day. Music just took on a whole different meaning to me from that first song – Kill the Poor. Lyrics became key, the honesty of them just became key.Anyway, oversharing. I got asked to list 5 songs I am listening to at the moment to help me through each day of this self-isolation reality. Easiest way for me to do that is to list the next 5 songs that play on random from my Apple Music account. I listen to music all day, and anytime I have tried to list of my favourites it blows out well beyond five!11.04am – Artist - Gogol BordelloAlbum - Gypsy Punk: Underdog World StrikeSong - Start Wearing Purple11.13am – Artist - MinistryAlbum - From Beer to EternitySong - Thanx But No Thanx11.37am – Artist - Bryan FerryAlbum - Bitter-SweetSong - Alphaville11.42am – Artist – PJ HarveyAlbum – The Hope Six Demolition ProjectSong - The Orange Monkey11.45am – Artist – Nitzer EbbAlbum – That Total AgeSong – Join the ChantOthers that I had hoped would come up but didn’t – Pixies, Carmina Burana: O Fortuna, Meat Puppets, Alabama 3, Ice Cube, Amenra, Dropkick Murphys, R.E.M, Agent Orange, Metallica, Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon, Minor Threat, Melvins, NIN, NoMeansNo, Ween, Youth Group, Die Antwoord, Paris, Public Enemy, Requiem for a Dream (Soundtrack), Fleetwood Mack, Jeff Buckley, 50 Cent, Blondie, Rod Stewart, Mickey Avalon, The Worst, Year of No Light, Lupe Fiasco, Nick Cave, Placebo, Rage Against the Machine, Prophets of Rage, Harry Belafonte, Lard, N.W.A, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, The Exploited, Dead Boys, X-Ray Spex, The Saints, and of course Motorhead. (I’ll stop now)The songs aren’t really that long; it just depends on how many phone calls or interruptions I get… My wife often comments on my highly varied taste in music likely causes issue with the algorithms in at Apple headquarters!Hopefully you find at least one song that you enjoy, but if not I completely understand as my music perhaps isn’t for everyone.I am very pleased also to say that I have managed to continue the tradition and my own three boys really aren’t massive fans of my music either, but they can tell me who Patti Smith, Shane McGowan or Nick Cave are just from their voices…and yes even Johnny Cash is recognised as well.Love to hear what your story is with music as well, and what you are listening to at the moment…michael.armstrong@penley.com.au
