2023 Field Blend

We always said the 2021 Field Blend would be a one off, defined by the vintage conditions that made it possible to harvest Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet all on the same day. Then 2023 came around and once again we were reminded to “never say never”. Round two, it’s not a common thing we repeat project wines, but here we are. There’s something incredibly special about the Field Blend that we never really thought about until the first release was bottled. There’s no variety that speaks louder than the others in the blend – it doesn’t look like Cabernet, Shiraz, or Merlot. What it does look like, is Penley. By combining all of the varieties grown on our estate vineyard, and using some of our favourite winemaking techniques – there is probably no other wine that speaks as loudly of “terroir” as this does. It also speaks of the vintage, of the growing conditions, of the people making it – which really, that all falls into the bucket of “terroir” in our opinion too.
