2005 Chertsey - 95 Points
Nick Stock, Wine 100 May 2009
“This boasts international style with distinct regional stamps of
blackcurrant and leafy mint. Hints of chocolate and earth with some pipe
tobacco starting to build. Fine tannins ooze class and there a long sweet
finish”.
2007 Gryphon Merlot - 91 Points
Nick Stock, Wine 100 May 2009
“Kym Tolley’s workhorse merlot has a light fruit nose and
plenty of appeal. The palate carries cooler berry/herb flavor and the light
smooth tannins that run through the back palate make this just slightly more
serious than the nose suggests, Elegant and balanced”.
2005 Reserve Cabernet - 93 Points
Robert Parker Jr, The Wine Advocate, Feb 2009
“Full flavored, savory and plush on the palate, this impressive effort has
enough stuffing to evolve for several more years”.
2005 Special Select Shiraz
Robert Parker Jr, The Wine Advocate, Feb 2009
“An elegant style…. Pepper, leather and blueberry leading to a silky
textures shiraz”.
2005 Chertsey
Robert Parker Jr, The Wine Advocate, Feb 2009
“An attractive bouquet, of toasty oak, medium bodied and smooth with plenty
of succulent black fruit, outstanding concentration, excellent balance and a
pure finish”.
2006 Gryphon Merlot - 90 Points
Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, Sept 2008
“The 2006 Gryphon Merlot was aged in 30% new oak. It exhibits excellent
spicy nose of blackcurrants and plum. This leads to an elegant wine with a
supple texture, savoury fruit and tasty flavours. It is well balanced and
has a fruit filled close”.
2006 Condor Shiraz Cabernet - 89 Points
Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, Sept 2008
“The 2006 Condor has a spice box, blackcurrant and blackberry nose that
jumps from the glass. Smooth- textured, sweetly-fruited, and plush, the wine
has savoury fruit, good depth and concentration and a pure finish”.
2006 Hyland Shiraz - 90 Points
Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, Sept 2008
“The 2006 Hyland offers up aromas of pepper, blueberry and plum. This is
followed by a medium- bodied, stylish wine with meaty flavours, good grip
and depth and a lengthy finish. Drink it over the next four years”
2006 Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon - 91 Points
Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, Sept 2008
“The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Phoenix was aged in 35% new oak. Purple
coloured, it has an enticing bouquet of spice box, cassis and blackcurrant.
Sweet, ripe and layered, it has 1-2 years of ageing potential but can be
enjoyed now. Penley has turned out four exceptional values in the 2006
vintage”.
2005 Reserve Cabernet - 90 Points
James Halliday's Wine Companion 2008
"Full bodied, with supple
tannins and layers of dark fruits... has good line and length"
2005 Special Select Shiraz- 94

and even a little fruitcake spice"
2006 Condor
Shiraz Cabernet
Matthew Jukes, Portavin TouchWine Launch August 2008
"As big birds go, the Condor's the king and Kym's classic Aussie
blend is one of his very best wines. The seamless knit between these two
grapes shows just how wonderful this partnership is- Penley is flying high"
2006 Phoenix
Caberbet
Matthew Jukes, Portavin
TouchWine Launch August 2008
"Phoenix cab is a wonderfully balanced wine with fruit, oak and
tannin in perfect harmony"
2006 Phoenix Cabernet - 93 Points
Nick Stock, WBM Magazine, June 2008
"Rich Coonawarra Cabernet
aromas, class and definition. A bright core of ripe berries some leave and
herb complexity, finely balanced and eminently drinkable.
2006 Phoenix Cabernet
John Fordham, The Daily Telegraph, 25th May 2008
"Heading Penley's releases, all
from 2006, are four knockout red. Rich full bodied and elegant, the present
the highest standards in Coonawarra red winemaking. If asked to separate a
favourite, Id probably lean towards the Phoenix, a benchmark bottling from
this renowned cabernet region".
2005 Gryphon Merlot - 91 Points/ Four Stars
Nick Bullied/ Peter Forrestal, Gourmet Traveller Wine, April 2008
""Generous, we liken the full
fruit flavour and soft, round balance. The Coonawarra origin shows in the
wines elegance and fine tannins".
